Project/Unit DescriptionThis job is for a full-time research faculty position in the Force Protection Systems Branch in the Aerospace & Acoustics Technologies Division (AATD) with the Aerospace, Transportation, and Advanced Systems Laboratory (ATASL) at the Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI).
The Force Protection Systems Branch (FPSB) focuses on the development, integration, testing and evaluation of tactical military systems for the protection of personnel and critical infrastructure worldwide.
FPSB personnel apply multi-disciplinary engineering expertise to sensors, platforms, and integrated systems, with a focus on small unmanned systems and asymmetric warfare.
Program areas include small, unmanned aircraft systems (UAS), Counter UAS systems, persistent tactical ISR platforms and sensors, and command and control (C2) architectures.
Within the Aerospace and Acoustics Technologies Division, FPSB focuses on opportunities for transition of emerging technologies to address urgent requirements.
Primary sponsors currently come from the US military acquisition community.
Job PurposeInitiate, plan, monitor and control, and close projects to meet business or sponsor requirements.
Required to progressively elaborate high-level information into detailed plans throughout the project life cycle.
Project Managers manage the project, program or portfolio team to meet the project or sponsor objectives.
Project Managers monitor and control the work of producing the products, services or results that the project was undertaken to produce.
Success is measured by product and project quality, timeliness, budget compliance, and degree of customer satisfaction.
Project Managers must meet all compliance and other regulatory requirements throughout a projects life cycle to successfully close out the time-bound project, program or portfolio.
Key Responsibilities Create schedules based on sponsor or project requirements.
Provide financial reporting, maintain schedules, project budget and requirements for sponsor reporting.
Provide purchasing support and inventory management.
Interface with and learn how to work with support units for administrative tasking.
Provide holistic project plans including documents detailing all aspects of a project from initiation to closeout.
Act as the project's primary interface with support units.
Manage relationships to handle operations or administrative challenges.
Lead programmatic discussions and updates during team meetings and prioritize administrative needs for the technical lead.
Validate monthly project expenditures against project schedule and burn plan.
Compile and edit deliverables and interface directly with sponsors.
Responsible for project operations and administrative tasks on small-to-medium projects of moderate complexity.
Lead and direct less experienced project managers and ensure project success.
Responsible for project operations and administrative tasks on small-to-medium projects of moderate complexity.
Lead and direct PM-1/2 level project managers and ensure project success.
Additional Responsibilities Responsibilities include managing projects and providing leadership to the following types of projects:
testing and evaluation of unmanned aircraft systems and related technologies; development and systems integration of innovative solutions for Force Protection applications focused on autonomous and unmanned systems; acquisition and analysis of engineering data; systems engineering for complex system-of-systems architectures addressing technical and non-technical metrics.
Analyzing sensor performance, involving both active and passive sensing modalities, and the physical phenomenology that determines the signatures of targets and backgrounds, modeling, simulation and analysis of military systems in a relevant environment.
Writing technical reports, user manuals, and software; and supporting other engineering-related work as needed.
In support of these technical requirements, intermittent travel will be required to test ranges and other government and contractor facilities.
At times, responsibilities may include oversight to all aspects of the test program, including staffing, schedule, and technical execution.
Required Minimum Qualifications Five years of relevant technical experience.
Preferred Qualifications Active TS/SCI Clearance.
Experience in a leadership role for military operations, exercise planning or similar projects with military requirements.
Experience in a leadership role with program management responsibilities, and/or related business knowledge from prior education or work.
Experience with military RDT&E, developmental testing, and/or operational testing, ideally including experience working with organizations such as AFOTEC, ATEC, and MCOTEA or combatant commands.
Familiarity with tactical military operations and understanding of military requirements and the DoD acquisition process.
Experience managing staffing, schedule, budgets and performance in a dynamic, high-pressure environment.
Experience with command-and-control architectures and military datalinks.
Experience with Joint coordination of airspace, fires, etc.
in support of tactical multi-domain operations.
Experience leading projects at multiple security levels.
Experience briefing senior leaders, sponsors or other decision-makers.
Prior service in the US military.
Travel Requirements25% - 50% travel.
